Wilkes Center Announces 7 Finalists for $500K Climate Launch Prize

The University of Utah's Wilkes Center for Climate Science and Policy has narrowed its list of finalists for its $500,000 Climate Launch Prize to seven.

The goal of the prize, which is one of the largest university-affiliated climate awards in the world, is to spur innovation and breakthroughs in the fight against climate change, the Deseret News reports.

The finalists, who will present their solutions at a May 14 conference at the University of Utah, include: Lumen Bioscience: The Seattle biotech company's solution to reduce methane emissions from dairy and beef cattle using a patented mixture of enzyme proteins was the first winner of the prize in 2023.Capture6 Climate RoboticsOctavia CarbonOscilla Power Inc.Swanson and Lidstrom LabsTaking RootVerne: The latter is developing a mobile biochar reactor for agricultural and wood waste that could capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere at 10 times the cost of current methods.
